Is It Possible to List on MLS Without a REALTOR? It is possible to sell directly and represent yourself as a seller on MLS, but it is not possible to launch a listing on MLS without the involvement of a REALTOR. The Multiple Listing Service (MLS) is owned by the Canadian Real Estate Association which gives access to local real Estate Boards accross the country. The Boards in turn give MLS access to its members, and the the only way to become a member of a Board is to be licensed to trade under provincial regulations.
How Can a Person Set Up a Listing and Represent Themselves on MLS REALTOR.ca?
Any real estate Brokerage or REALTOR has the ability to set up a mere posting or for-sale-by-owner (FSBO) listing on MLS.
Some agents and Brokerages provide and advertise this type of service officially. Others may offer it privately on a case by case basis.
Typically there is a fee or monthly fees involved.
Is It Possible To List on MLS For Free?
Any agreement signed between a seller and a Brokerage needs to have a consideration component in order to be legal,
therefore it is not possible list for free. However, consideration can be any amount including a couple of pennies.
In a case where a nominal amount like $0.02 is charged, it can be said that the listing is free.
